year and model international tractor
Eugene Welch | i got this tractor man i bought it from dose not seem to know much about it I found a number it's 4250J could anyone tell me how find year and model thanks GENE tx. |
Hugh MacKay | Eugene: That serial number would have been used on just about every model, however two things narrow down the years. First the letter J suggests the tractor has a Rockford clutch and IH never started using those clutches until after 1953. Secondly, after 1963, serial numbers became much more complicated with a series of numbers and letters outlining options on the tractor. By 1953 most of the letter series Farmalls and Internationals had 5 and 6 digit serial numbers. This leaves us with 00 series, 30-50 series or 40-60 series. Each one of those series would have had 8 or 9 basic models and all would have used that number at some point. Originally that serial plate would have also contained the model number, but it was not stamped in and is probably worn off by now. Try cleaning the plate, you may still be able to see the model designation faintly. I know my 1958 Farmall 130 is that way but it can be seen with a bit of cleaning with a degreaser. First, is the tractor Farmall or International? Next steering wheel shaft. Is the tractor offset with steering shaft going one piece to the steering box on the right side of engine, or does the shaft go down left side with two U joints before getting to steering boxm, or does the steering shaft run center along top going under hood just forward of fuel tank? What size are the rear tires? Is the grill rounded or basically square? Do you mount and dismount forward or behind rear wheels? Give me the answers to all those questions, and that will narrow it down to about 6 models. Once we get there I can zero in on more details, and yes we will nail it. |
Eugene Welch | Hugh thank you there's numbers all over the tractor most of theme end with R1 i will get these today and send them to you Gene |

al | Its a 1951 Farmall H. Serial #'s 351923 through 375860 were built in 1951. The X1 option code designates higher compression gasoline only pistons installed from the factory. Quite a common option on H's from the late 40's into the early 50's. Should be around a 5.9:1 compression ratio with about 28 pto horsepower. |
